The recently announced winner of this year’s Deutsche Borse Photography Prize is British artist John Stezaker who won out over Rinko Kawauchi, Christopher Williams and Pieter Hugo.  His victory has not been universally approved (mind you, are they ever?) as Stezaker does not originate his images but is a collagist who integrates vintage postcards, film stills and pictures from books and magazines with surreal and often quite haunting results.  See this Guardian article for more discussion of the award.  The best general introduction to his work is the catalogue of his recent exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery and is titled simply John Stezaker.
