It was sad to hear of the recent death of Martine Franck. Women feature too little among the best-known photographers and the Magnum agency has lost two of their most high-profile female members this year, Franck and Eve Arnold.  Unfairly overshadowed for much of her career as the result of her marriage to Henri Cartier-Bresson, Franck’s own photographs were rarely dramatic but she was a great celebrant of the poetry of ordinary lives.  You can read the Guardian obituary here.  I was very pleased to see that two of the best collections of her photography are still in print: One Day to the Next and Women.
