Publisher's description
Georgia is the name of the boat in which embarked in 1906 a certain Ljubiša Danilovic, a young nineteen-year-old Montenegrin, dreaming of an elsewhere full of promise. It was in Butte, a mining town in the United States, in Montana, that he finally landed, like many Montenegrins or Italians at the time.
Of this namesake, of whom he knows nothing, apart from the mention of his name on a period document listing the passengers of the Georgia, Ljubiša Danilovic imagines in 2021 the journey that will take him from his native Montenegro to the United States, thus redoing a journey comparable in all respects to those which thousands of migrants throughout the world have to undertake today.
By mixing in this book photographs of the city of Butte, of a Montenegro that does not offer a horizon to young adults dreaming of elsewhere, of a nostalgic Montenegro, that of his childhood, of the migrants met in Paris, Calais or Sarajevo, and others who have spent their lives far from their country of birth…, Ljubiša Danilovic speaks with one voice of the little story but of course also of the Great Story of exile.
