We Love Our Employees (Signed)
One of Mexico’s biggest beer companies at the beginning of the 20th century was worried about the new constitutional rights offered to workers to unionize. This created a concern about strikes and trouble in the company. For years they threw parties in which spies were placed to hear out the employees' conversations in order to spot trouble makers. This book contains the pictures of many of those parties.
"Everything was wonderful. In these photographs, you’ll notice a palpable beauty, healthy bodies, nice clothes, exquisite hairstyles, you might smell a well-matched perfume. The context is one of economic bonanza. Healthy, erect; these workers model the best employees: tense, but obedient; frightened, but with their lives resolved — what André Gorz sums up in his sentence: “To lose one’s life to gain a living.” (Ximena Peredo)
