The photographer Lesha Berezovskiy lives in Kyiv. He wakes up on February 24, 2022, and nothing is as it was: the full scale Russian invasion of Ukraine has begun. What does this do to the residents in the Ukrainian capital? What happens to people when their own fate is determined by world politics? In pictures and words, Lesha has been recording his thoughts. Unfiltered, direct, and honest, he tells of feeling overwhelmed at the beginning, the solidarity of the people on the ground, a cautiously hopeful summer, the everyday life in the fall accompanied once again by the wailing of sirens, and the cold and dark winter under Russian attack. The images in the book look at the current situation and events from a very personal perspective. They’re touching, disturbing, poetic, and yet always very direct and true to life.
